The coming of age for boys and girls

Bar Mitzvah
Every Jewish boy becomes Bar Mitzvah (son of the commandments) automatically when he turns 13. This means that he is now obliged to honour the 613 mitzvot (commandments). Most people celebrate this occasion with the young man's first aliya (call up) to the torah. The celebration then continues with a kiddish in the synagogue and often a family lunch at home. But no simcha is complete without a proper fress (feast), so it has become the custom to celebrate it big time. Stuck for inspiration? Give us a call, we've got plenty of ideas.

Bat Mitzvah
Girls reach their coming of age a year earlier then boys, at 12. This is usually celebrated with a festive lunch or dinner.
